The Finance Ghost Plugged in with Capitec: Ep 8 (Business Banking, but better)

Capitec understands the challenges faced by entrepreneurs. Throughout this season of The Finance Ghost Plugged in with Capitec, we’ve explored how affordable transactional banking and access to finance can help business owners grow.  But how does it all come together? And how did Capitec make such a strong impact on the business banking scene so quickly? This is The Finance Ghost in conversation with Karl Kumbier (Executive for Business Bank), Amrei Botha (Executive of Client Experience Delivery) and Sicelo Mkhize (Head of Distribution).

Ghost Bites (Cell C | Ethos Capital | Mustek | KAP)

Cell C's maiden results as a listed company show us their growth engines, but also expense pressures. KAP is looking much better than before, and so is Mustek. Ethos Capital is repurchasing 41.5% of its shares in issue.

Ghost Bites (Aspen | Capitec | City Lodge | Nampak | Pan African Resources | Trustco)

Capitec's excellent growth story continues. Pan African Resources made a fortune in 2025. Aspen's interims are predictably awful, but they are looking to the future. Nampak's business update is encouraging. City Lodge's growth was offset by currency moves. Trustco's Meya Mining raised debt for its diamond mining ambitions.

The Finance Ghost Plugged in with Capitec: Ep 7 (Driving more than turnover)

Priscilla Msimanga made the leap that so many dream of, yet few are willing to make: leaving a big corporate role and shifting into the grinding world of entrepreneurship. To add to the intrigue, she bought a Shell forecourt and stepped into specialist retail. From pumping fuel to serving food, this is a lovely story of rolling up those sleeves and learning how to run a business.

Ghost Bites (Mr Price | NEPI Rockcastle)

Mr Price isn't backing off on the NKD deal, despite the absolute hatred for the transaction from the market. NEPI's pre-close update shows the importance of looking at per-share growth.

Ghost Bites (Anglo American | ASP Isotopes | DRDGOLD | Jubilee Metals | Nedbank | Schroder European Real Estate | South32)

ASP Isotopes will shortly implement the Renergen deal. Nedbank has finished the sale of Ecobank. Anglo American got another regulatory approval for Teck. Schroder European Real Estate has a tenant problem, South32 has an energy problem and DRDGOLD has a mining unions problem! Jubilee Metals looks ahead to a much better FY26 (hopefully).

The Finance Ghost Plugged in with Capitec: Ep 6 (Noodles without borders – bringing miso to Mzansi)

Lu-ise Hattingh and Ruan Botha are a great example of the power and value of travel. After spending time in Japan, they fell in love with the culture and food. As all great entrepreneurs do, they also took the opportunity to learn about the Japanese approach to consumer brands. That curiosity eventually sparked a business idea they brought back home. Today, Lu-ise and Ruan are rolling out Market Kokoro franchise stores in South Africa.

Ghost Bites (Absa | Capitec | Italtile | Nampak | Spar | Sygnia)

In banking, Absa's expense growth is a concern and Capitec is acquiring fintech Walletdoc for up to R400 million. In turnaround valley, Nampak is a lot further along in the process than Spar. Italtile is really struggling in this market. Sygnia is growing strongly, but why is dividend growth lagging?
