GHOST WRAP – Earnings season brings out the bulls and the bears

With the August / September earnings season behind us, it's helpful to look at share price moves over the past 30 days on the JSE to see how sentiment has shifted. The PGMs have driven the Top40 higher, while insurance has taken a breather.

Vukile released strong numbers. Stor-Age's decreased payout ratio set a few hares running. Powerfleet needs profits, not just revenue growth. Look out for Assura - Primary Health, Astoria and Gemfields as well.

Ghost Bites (African Rainbow Capital | Altron | Barloworld | Blue Label Telecoms | Dis-Chem | Exemplar | Hyprop – MAS | Pick n...

Pick n Pay's turnaround will take longer than planned. Barloworld's numbers are a critical backdrop to the current offer. ARC Investments will take many shareholders into the unlisted space. Look out for Altron, Blue Label Telecoms, Dis-Chem, Exemplar and Renergen as well, along with Hyprop's potential play for MAS.

GHOST BITES (ASP Isotopes | Delta Property Fund | Finbond | Impala Platinum | Merafe – Glencore | Renergen | YeboYethu)

ASP Isotopes is an exciting new JSE listing. Implats, Merafe-Glencore and Renergen gave mining sector updates. Finbond wants to raise up to R2bn in preference shares. YeboYethu enjoyed a higher Vodacom share price. Delta Property Fund sold a property.

GHOST BITES (iOCO | Kore Potash | Renergen)

iOCO (previously EOH) has made strong progress in its margins. Kore Potash has suffered a wobbly with funding plans, but hopefully only a small one. Renergen released a quarterly update.

Ghost Bites (African Rainbow Minerals | Calgro | Caxton | City Lodge | Clientele | Momentum)

Momentum released the only really good numbers of the day, with African Rainbow Minerals, Caxton, City Lodge and Clientele facing challenges. There's a sudden change to top management at Calgro.

Ghost Bites (African Rainbow Capital | Kibo Energy | Novus | Sibanye-Stillwater | The Foschini Group)

The Foschini Group worked hard for the bankers this year, but underlying momentum is strong. ARC's portfolio is mostly doing well. Sibanye is increasing balance sheet flexibility. Kibo Energy and Novus released news as well.
