RCL Foods is navigating a bitter situation in sugar. Bidvest is building a hygiene giant. Italtile and Thungela are struggling, while the JSE and MTN are flying. Clientèle's business is showing encouraging signs. Merafe is kicking the can down the road.

Strong numbers came through from Discovery, Fortress Real Estate, Libstar and Spur. Tiger Brands is doing as well as they can in a deflationary environment. KAP is doing better on margins, but has much work to do on revenue. OUTsurance had a tough period in Australia, but decent numbers overall. Nedbank is struggling to find growth, while Truworths remains reliant on the UK.

Ghost Bites (Fairvest | Mantengu | Premier Group – RFG Holdings)

Premier and RFG Holdings shareholders gave a resounding approval to the deal that will combine the groups. Fairvest is investing deeper in township fibre. Mantengu has commissioned the second chrome processing plant.

Ghost Bites (Anglo American | Grindrod | KAP | Libstar | Mr Price)

Mr Price blows up its investment thesis - and spectacularly. KAP is looking much better. Anglo American and Teck Resources shareholders approve the merger. Grindrod's performance is a mixed bag. Libstar continues to clean house.

Ghost Bites (Harmony Gold | Invicta | Netcare | Oceana | PPC | Prosus – Naspers | Stefanutti Stocks)

Prosus - Naspers is growing strongly, with all eyes on the Just Eat Takeaway.com integration. PPC's turnaround strategy is working incredibly well. Invicta and Netcare both took advantage of share buybacks. Oceana was dragged down by fish oil prices. Harmony Gold is pushing further into copper. Stefanutti Stocks has settled with Eskom.

Richemont accelerated in the second quarter. CMH feels confident enough to do a large share buyback. BHP's court process regarding the disaster in Brazil is far from over. Goldrush is responding to market disruption. KAP has sold part of Unitrans.

Ghost Bites (Exemplar REITail | Octodec | Omnia | PPC | Raubex | Shoprite | Sibanye-Stillwater | Telkom | Tiger Brands | Vodacom)

In the grocery sector, we saw Shoprite with a quarterly update and Tiger Brands with a bullish narrative. In telcos, Vodacom had a great period and Telkom has built on the success of last year. Look out for Exemplar REITail and Octodec in property, along with Omnia, PPC and Raubex from the "real" economy. Finally, Sibanye settled with Appian.
