GHOST WRAP – Earnings season brings out the bulls and the bears

With the August / September earnings season behind us, it's helpful to look at share price moves over the past 30 days on the JSE to see how sentiment has shifted. The PGMs have driven the Top40 higher, while insurance has taken a breather.

Curro is ready to go private. Prosus can close the Just Eat Takeaway.com deal. eMedia is making a significant offshore investment. Africa Bitcoin Corporation needs to get up the J-curve a lot faster. Orion Minerals is enjoying strong capital raising support. Trustco has once again angered the JSE.

CA Sales, RCL Foods, Santam and Sea Harvest all released solid numbers. Bidvest, Bell Equipment and Brimstone are struggling to various degrees. Sun International posted a resilient set of numbers. Blue Label has given more details on the Cell C restructure.

The take-private bid for Adcock Ingram is juicy to say the least. Mr Price had a tough June but a resilient quarter overall. MultiChoice got the green light for the Canal+ deal. AECI, Karooooo, Northam Platinum and Vodacom released financial updates. Santam is growing offshore, while Spear REIT sticks to the Western Cape.

Ghost Bites (Brait | Metrofile | Renergen)

Brait has been boosted by a much stronger Virgin Active story, alongside Premier's excellent growth. Renergen had another stop-start quarter. A potential Metrofile deal is still in the works.

Pick n Pay is still a loss-making business. Positive jaws at Investec looks encouraging. Life Healthcare is also on the up, along with Shaftesbury and Spear REIT. Tharisa had a rough interim period. Shuka Minerals makes its market debut.
